Use this Talk Money Week as an opportunity to get more comfortable talking about money.
What is Talk Money Week?
It's an annual, national campaign launched by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS), to inspire conversation around money. It invites people across the country, as well as educators, employers, organizations and financial services, to get involved with activities and events.
What are the benefits of talking about money?
Money struggles can be a huge source of stress for many, which can affect every area of their lives. The stigma surrounding these conversations, can give people an unrealistic view of the lives of others. Many people have large debts and suffer in silence. Discussing these with friends and family can reduce your stress and help you to know that you're not alone.
By getting comfortable talking about your finances honestly with trusted friends and family members, it can:
- strengthen your relationships through sharing vulnerabilities with others, and encourage them to do the same
- give you an honest, realistic view of the finances of others
- improve your mental health and wellbeing through sharing the burden
- help you learn new approaches to managing finances, which could help you make better financial decisions
- help you to learn and share good money-saving habits with your children, preparing them for later life
- help you to feel more supported, less anxious and more optimistic about solutions
Visit the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) website where you'll find useful resources and tips to help you #StartTheConversation today.
