After a lifetime of dedicated service to the railway, retirement can bring a welcome change of pace — but it can also feel like a loss of connection. For many, stepping away from a lifelong career can also mean stepping away from the social circles and routines that gave each day its rhythm.
Charity the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) have launched Retired Community Events - a heartfelt initiative designed to keep the spirit of the railway alive long after retirement.
The events offer a chance to reconnect with old colleagues, meet new friends, and stay part of the railway family - long after the final shift ends.
They are free, informal gatherings and offer a welcoming space for former railway workers to reconnect, share stories, and enjoy the camaraderie that defined their working lives.
Whether you spent your career on the tracks, in the office, or behind the scenes, these events are open to all who’ve contributed to the rail industry.

Why events of this nature matter
With the decline of traditional railway social clubs and networks, many retired railway workers have found themselves missing the camaraderie that was once an integral part of their daily lives.
The RBF’s community events are helping to bridge that gap — offering meaningful opportunities to reconnect, reminisce, and build new friendships.
Check in and Chat
Sometimes, a friendly voice is all it takes to brighten your day.
The RBF’s Check In and Chat service offers free, regular phone calls from volunteers who work in the rail industry. Whether you want to talk about your railway days or just chat about life, it’s your time — your way.
To register your interest in a weekly check in and chat call, email the RBF or give them a call on 03452 412 885.
